About the GhostLeg (Click to open)
The ladder game, known as “Amidakuji” in Japan, is a classic lottery method used to create random, one-to-one pairings between two sets of items. The game works by creating paths with a number of vertical lines and random horizontal rungs drawn between them. A participant chooses a starting point at the top and follows the line downwards. When a horizontal rung is encountered, they must turn and follow it to the adjacent vertical line, eventually arriving at a unique result at the bottom.
The origin of its English name, “Ghost Leg,” is quite interesting. It doesn’t refer to anything ghostly in the gameplay but comes from its appearance. When all the paths are drawn, the entire diagram resembles the faint, wispy legs of ghosts often depicted in traditional Asian folklore, which is how it earned its name.
Due to its simple rules, intuitive process, and fair outcomes, the ladder game is widely used for assigning tasks, forming groups, or in any situation that requires random decision-making.
